Prepare a passage and a model
Inline translation works on the selected passage, so begin with a complete thought: a paragraph, a heading with its explanation, or a short section. Check that the selected Agent model is configured and available. The translation is a model request and can use provider quota or Cloud credits.
Decide whether the target text should replace the original or sit beside it for review. Keeping both versions is useful when names, terminology, measurements, or tone need careful comparison. A fluent result can still change the meaning of a requirement.
Translate the selection
- Open a document and select the text to translate.
- Open translation from the context menu, command palette, or Cmd/Ctrl+Alt+T.
- Choose the target language; set a default in Settings or the translation menu if needed.
- Read the proposed translation and compare names, numbers, negations, and terminology with the original.
- Replace the selection, insert below, copy the result, or retry according to your review outcome.
Choose where the result belongs
| Action | Use when |
|---|---|
| Replace | The translated passage should become the document text |
| Insert below | Both languages are needed for comparison |
| Copy | The result will be used in another destination |
| Retry | The current wording needs another attempt |
Check a translated document
Read the surrounding paragraphs after inserting a result. Keep heading levels, links, code, and exact product names consistent with the rest of the document. For a long document, work section by section and maintain a small terminology list rather than assuming separate requests will use identical wording.
If no result appears, check the selected model and its connection before retrying. Preserve the source text while investigating. Translation does not establish the factual accuracy of the source or provide specialist certification for the resulting document.
