Open the export dialog

Open a Markdown document, open the document item menu in the top bar, and choose Export file. Export always uses the active document and the current editor draft.

Choose Markdown (.md), HTML (.html), PDF (.pdf), or Word (.docx). The save dialog uses a sanitized version of the document title as the default filename.

Markdown and HTML

  • Markdown saves the current source text
  • HTML converts Markdown to a standalone UTF-8 HTML document
  • HTML resolves workspace image sources and inlines rendered Mermaid diagrams before saving
  • The content selector can request everything or text-only, but Markdown and HTML currently save through their format-specific source/render path

PDF options

Kition renders export HTML in a sandboxed hidden Electron window and uses Chromium printToPDF. It does not require Pandoc, LaTeX, xelatex, or a user-installed PDF converter.

  • PDF export requires the Desktop runtime
  • Page sizes: A4, A3, A5, Letter, Legal, and Tabloid
  • Portrait or landscape orientation
  • Default, none, or minimum margins
  • Optional document name in the rendered page
  • Scale from 10 through 100 percent

Word export

Word export builds a .docx file in the client with the bundled DOCX library. Choose whether to include media before exporting.

Kition 0.1.41 does not expose a custom reference DOCX, custom CSS style registry, Pandoc options, folder merge, or selection-only export in this dialog.

Verify the generated file

  • Open the result and check headings, tables, links, images, math, diagrams, and page breaks
  • Confirm sensitive local paths or content were not included unintentionally
  • Keep the source Markdown as the editable original
  • For a failed PDF export, confirm you are running Desktop and retry with a smaller scale or simpler document
