Keybindings
Keybindings are keyboard shortcuts interpreted by the active application, workspace, or document surface. The focused surface determines which action a key combination performs.

Find the shortcut for the active surface
A shortcut list is useful only when its scope is clear. Before concluding that a binding is broken, check whether focus is inside a text field, an editor, or the surrounding workspace. The version-specific reference below distinguishes application actions from document actions.
- Click the surface where you intend the command to act.
- Find the binding in the matching application or document section below.
- Use the platform modifier shown by the reference rather than guessing a cross-platform equivalent.
- If the result differs, check operating-system shortcuts and the current input focus.
- Try the corresponding visible command to distinguish a key conflict from an unavailable feature.
| Scope | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Application | Workspace-level navigation and commands |
| Document | Actions for the active document |
| Text input | Typing and editing within the focused field |
Application and workspace
Kition 0.1.41 does not render the older Settings → Shortcuts pane. Saved-shortcut infrastructure exists, but the public UI does not expose the old general shortcut editor, and only the open-settings action is visibly connected to the global shortcut hook.
Cmd/Ctrl + K— open the small application paletteCmd/Ctrl + Shift + F— open global searchCmd/Ctrl + Shift + O— open the workspace launcherCmd/Ctrl + W— close the active workspace tabCmd + ,— open Settings through the default macOS binding
Document navigation
Shortcuts are contextual. The same key can be handled by the application shell, the document surface, or the active editor depending on focus.
Cmd/Ctrl + P— document command paletteCmd/Ctrl + O— Quick OpenCmd/Ctrl + Shift + F— document global searchCmd/Ctrl + Shift + T— open or create the daily noteAlt + Shift + Left/Right— previous or next daily noteCmd/Ctrl + Shift + H— jump to a headingCmd/Ctrl + Shift + B— jump to a block
Reading view and editor formatting
Cmd/Ctrl + E toggles reading view when the document surface handles it. Inside the CodeMirror editor, that key toggles inline code instead. Formatting shortcuts for bold, italic, links, code, lists, and headings are documented with the Markdown editor because editor focus determines their behavior.
Tip
On macOS, use Command for shortcuts written as Cmd/Ctrl. On Windows and Linux, use Control. Cmd + , is verified as the default Settings binding on macOS; do not assume an equivalent Ctrl + , binding is registered in this release.
