Download from the official Release

Use kition.ai/download or the latest Release in KitionAI/kition. The desktop client and its bundled runtime are released together; do not mix files from different versions.

  • macOS Apple Silicon: Kition-<version>-macos-arm64.dmg
  • macOS Intel: Kition-<version>-macos-x64.dmg
  • Windows x64: Kition-<version>-windows-x64-setup.exe
  • Linux x64, experimental: Kition-<version>-linux-x64.AppImage

Heads up

Use only assets attached to the official Kition Release. Do not install repackaged copies from third-party download sites.

macOS

Choose the DMG matching your Mac, open it, and move Kition to Applications. Public macOS builds are configured for Developer ID signing and notarization.

If macOS blocks launch, first confirm the version and asset came from the official Release before using the operating system’s Open confirmation.

Windows

Run the Windows x64 setup executable from the official Release. Windows may show a reputation or security prompt for a new build; verify the download source and exact filename before continuing.

Kition currently publishes the installer form for Windows. Do not rely on an undocumented portable ZIP.

Linux (experimental)

Linux is published as an x64 AppImage. Desktop integration and distribution-specific behavior remain experimental.

bash
chmod +x Kition-<version>-linux-x64.AppImage
./Kition-<version>-linux-x64.AppImage

First launch

Choose or create a local workspace folder. Kition seeds a Getting Started area with practical documents, tables, and workflow examples.

The onboarding flow then offers three choices: sign in to Kition Cloud, connect your own AI provider, or continue without AI. You can change this later in Settings.

Updates

Automatic update checks are enabled by default and can be changed in Settings → General. If an update cannot be verified, reinstall the matching version from the official Releases page.

Verify the installation

  • Open a local workspace and confirm Kition shows the expected version
  • Create or edit a Markdown document and reopen it
  • Create or open a table and confirm changes persist
  • If AI is enabled, begin with a small read-only task and review the result
