Check the installed build
Open Settings → About to see the installed version, commit, and build time. Update support is available only in a packaged Desktop build; a development session or web preview reports updates as unsupported.
Install an update
Kition uses electron-updater with releases from the KitionAI/kition GitHub repository. Downloads and installation are explicit: the app sets automatic download and automatic install-on-quit to off.
Restart and install closes embedded browser sessions and stops the bundled runtime before applying the release. Save active work and finish important browser activity first.
- Choose Check for updates
- When a release is available, choose Download
- After the download is ready, choose Restart and install
Automatic checks and release channel
When automatic update checks are enabled, the packaged app performs its first check about 30 seconds after startup and repeats approximately every six hours. A successful check still waits for you to download and install the update.
Enabling the beta channel allows prerelease builds. Disable it to follow the stable channel, then check again when you want to return to a stable release.
Troubleshoot an update
Published package formats are DMG/ZIP for macOS, an NSIS installer for Windows, and AppImage for Linux. Availability for a specific version is determined by that GitHub Release.
- Network — verify normal HTTPS access and any configured proxy, then retry
- Verification — do not bypass the failure; download the published installer again from the official release
- Disk — free space on the system and download volumes
- GitHub rate limit — wait and retry later
- Other error — copy Support diagnostics and include the exact update message
